Calls for legal action over death of woman in Timaru rest home

Photo: 123RF The woman, who was in her 70s, was not able to get in or out of bed on her own. Deputy Health and Disability Commissioner Rose Wall found the Radius Elloughton Gardens rest home in Timaru breached the Code, after the woman suffered serious injuries in their care in 2018. The woman fell out of bed in 2018 and died days later. Staff at the Timaru rest home claimed to have been unaware of how the woman suffered multiple fractures, despite an investigation saying it s most likely someone was with her at the time. The rest home said it had apologised to the family for what happened in 2018.

Huntington s Disease: Families in Moray to form charity to help fight against genetic illness

Sign Up Huntington’s Disease campaigners in Moray want to set up a charity to provide more help for families fighting the illness. During that time the families have won support from several local businesses. Now they have agreed to form a charity as a branch of national organisation Scottish Huntington’s Association to properly manage the funds destined to provide vital support. Member Jock Anderson said: “We feel it’s the right time for this. It could open a lot of opportunities for our members.”

Sir Tim Shadbolt says he refuses to be muzzled by city council, laments sad day for freedom of speech

He wouldn’t be giving it up, despite the protocols passed by the majority of councillors. Shadbolt, deputy mayor Nobby Clark and councillor Lindsay Abbott voted against the new media protocols, councillor Marcus Lush said he did not vote and councillor Ian Pottinger did not attend the meeting. When Shadbolt was asked if he would think twice before speaking about the actions and decisions of his council colleagues in future, he said he would not. He would be “speaking out” when he believed councillors had crossed the line, and he would support those councillors who were also prepared to “take the risk”.

Timaru District Council looks to create climate change unit

He suggested sharing resources with other councils, rather than council having their own unit. “I don’t want these two advisors to be twiddling their thumbs and doing nothing,” Booth said. Dixon replied there was “a lot of work” that could be done in the climate change field, particularly when it came to measuring the impact on infrastructure.
