2021 Targa Tasmania: It s bloody wonderful but not without its dangers

Peter McKay Contributor Targa-style  tarmac road events are massive fun, but with ever-lurking danger being part of the high-speed menu. This was emphasised during the 2021 Targa Tasmania with the tragic deaths of three competitors. Now questions are being asked… Make no mistake, these events are not without their risks. Road grip and conditions change with the weather, and occasional nasty surprises can wait around every corner. Unlike the controlled nature of a permanent racing circuit, have a mishap and emergency vehicles may be half-an-hour and 25 km away. Some people crochet as a hobby. Others play tennis. Some do frustrating stuff like hitting a small white ball around until it goes into one of 18 tiny holes.

Today I Learned About Jesus Saves Racing (And No, It Wasn t A NASCAR Team)

Today I Learned About Jesus Saves Racing (And No, It Wasn t A NASCAR Team) Photo: John Minihan/Evening Standard/Hulton Archive (Getty Images) I like to consider myself something of a 1970s Formula One encyclopedia, but if there’s one person in this world who can outdo me, it’s my good pal Josh Wilcock, who taught me about a fun little racing team called Jesus Saves Racing. Advertisement I stumbled on a ‘Jesus Saves’ sponsor in a photo from the 1975 British Grand Prix while hunting for a photo of an American race car driver (which is the header photo for this story). After posting it on Twitter, Wilcock responded with a photo that completely changed the course of my day.

5 reasons F1 fans are still in awe of the legendary Gilles Villeneuve

Had things panned out differently, January 18, 2021 would have marked the 71st birthday of Gilles Villeneuve. The French-Canadian driver only competed in six seasons of Formula 1, and won just six times – and yet his extrovert driving style and never-surrender attitude mean he is still sorely missed by F1 fans today. Lap 4 of the 1981 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, and Villeneuve has just clouted the fiddly chicane at Woodcote. Carnage ensues, as Villeneuve spins into the catch fencing and eventual retirement, taking Williams’ Alan Jones and Alfa Romeo’s Andrea de Cesaris – who’d both been unable to avoid the French-Canadian’s rotating Ferrari 126CK – with him. The crash was, to all intents and purposes, Villeneuve’s fault.

Monday Forecast

Monday Forecast Ryan Michaels PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Good Monday morning everyone! It’s a quiet start on radar but we do have some thick low level clouds in place. They’ll keep us rather cloudy through the morning drive today. But they’re not expected to last all day long! It’s possible we could see a little patchy fog for the morning drive as well. Meanwhile, temperatures are cool and jacket-worthy as we’re getting going in the low 50s. We’ll have an overall cool day shaping up for our Monday as well. With the clouds hanging tough through the morning drive we’ll keep the low 50s around until about mid-morning. By lunchtime, clouds will decrease to mostly sunny skies and we’ll start to approach 60 degrees. Highs today will be fairly seasonal in the low 60s this afternoon under mainly sunny skies.
