Some parts of downtown Joburg have been left in the dark since last Wednesday after a gas explosion on Lilian Ngoyi Street (formerly known as Bree Street).
The City of Joburg used the services of structural and civil engineers to look into the safety and integrity of the residential buildings in the area. Air quality controllers also said gas leaking into the atmosphere posed no risk to residents.
The explosion in the Joburg CBD has not only left people injured and claimed one life, but has also displaced hundreds of others who live and work in the city centre and stripped business owners of their livelihoods, leaving them in despair and uncertainty.
