reinvest in our infrastructure. in addition to enough jobs, fairness in jobs there must be a bigger role for hud to play and if the banks foreclose and we put people back to work. they call the fast rail that the department of transportation and the department of labor have big roles to play in the massive jobs plan. you know, president obama also held a jobs tour last week, but his was more of a listening tour. he helped town halls of people in the midwest. what do you think, reverend? do you think he is doing enough to help the black community when it comes to jobs? well, there must be a renewed focus on jobs. i think that in this rockish ship, we put so much focus on those on the deck of the ship and those in the cabins and not the focus on those in the hull of the ship, and that means we bail out the banks. it was not linked to lend and
that is fully paid for. and we need with all the kind of cut backs rick perry has made in texas to our public schools and cut backs that are occurring in other parts of the country federal support for education to help open opportunities for the future. and improve our competitiveness. i d like to see the president get more actively behind that. lloyd doggett, democratic congressman from texas thank you. thank you. and with me now the host of hardball chris matthews. hey, chris, there s been a lot of red flags for the president along the way. i want to play a little bit of the session that maxine waters held with the congressional black caucus in detroit on their jobs tour. watch this. the congressional black caucus loves the president. we re supportive of the president, but we re getting tired of it. we re getting tired of it. and so what we want to do is we want to give the president every
family to make sure it succeeds not just now but in the long-term, let s invest in those things and stop investing in the things that don t work. and the same approach has to be taken for the american family. now, what s been striking as i ve been traveling through over the last few days, you know, you guys you re all fulfilling your responsibilities. you re working hard. you re looking after your families. you re volunteering at church. you re coaching little league. you re doing everything right. and all you re asking for if i m not mistaken as the president continues speaking we re joined by lloyd doggett an expert on all things rick perry. let s talk about the president s bus trip and the tour across the midwest. he s been getting some push back from his own base supporters and as we saw earlier the congressional black caucus has been in detroit as part of their jobs tour getting an angry
as we ve reported, the president is in illinois on the final stop after three-day jobs tour. one consistent of the trip, the president s focus on jobs. our biggest challenge right now is putting people to work. our job is not finished until every single american who is looking for a job, can find a job. let s get to work. he s offering specific concrete proposals to get the economy moving. we got the overall economy moving, if we pass the payroll tax cut trade deals to level the playing field for american companies put americans back to work all across the country rebuilding america. these ideas are just the beginning. we will get the president s big plan in september.
out. coincidence? does it pass the smell test? the places, of course, where he s going, iowa the epicenter of the presidential politics right now. illinois, minnesota, some and of course, some states that he won the last time around so these he needs minnesota and it s teetering. he needs iowa and it s teetering and he has a pretty good approval rating in his hometown of illinois. so that is not about campaigning. it s about being president. and jay carney was asked about that. and he essentially says this is just a this is a this is a stop on a tour. he said that suggests any time the president leaves washington it s a political trip and the president would never leave unless they re physically campaigning on their own behalf and he s not. there s a way to spin this however you want to spin it. let s face it, last week he went to michigan and you could argue that was a jobs tour because in michigan, unemployment is way above what the national average is. but in these
