More than 12 percent of the Portuguese population in 2019 was in a state of poverty and 17.2 percent were at risk of poverty, a percentage that increase to more than 43 percent without social support from the State, according to a study released today
The data is contained in the report “Portugal, Social Balance 2020 - A portrait of the country and the effects of the pandemic”, from the Faculty of Economics of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, NOVA SBE.
The report was produced by the institution s economist and professor, Susana Peralta, in co-authorship with Bruno P. Carvalho and Mariana Esteves.
The number of unemployed registered in job centres increased by 29.6% in December in year-on-year terms and by 1.0% compared to November, according to data.
