Md Mizanur Rahman, sub-inspector of Saltha Police Station, filed a case with the station against 88 identified persons and another 3,000-4,000 unidentified persons in the case. Mizan was injured in a mob attack in Fukra Bazar area around 6:30 pm on Monday. The arresetee are Abul Kalam Sheikh, 35, and his brother Md Ripon Sheikh, 32, Md Elias Mollah, 27, Md Sohidul Islam, 32, Md Rubel Hossain Fakir, 24, Md Yunus Matubbrar, 60, Md Sojib Kazi, 19, Amir Mollah, 30, and Rabbi Matubbar, 19, and three 18-year olds.

Faridpur Violence: Vested quarter behind it

Police fired rubber bullets, tear gas, sound grenades and bullets to bring the situation under control. The violence left one dead and 10 people, including seven cops, injured. The dead, Jobayar Ali, 22, was a resident of Ramkantapur village in Saltha. Witnesses said Assistant Commissioner (land) Marufa Sultana went to Fukra Bazar around 6:30pm on Monday to enforce lockdown rules set by the government. At that time, some people were taking tea at a tea stall without following health safety rules. Seeing this, some Ansar members, who were accompanying Marufa, beat up four people, leaving them injured. Angered by this, some locals staged a protest. Sensing trouble, the assistant commissioner left the area. Within a few minutes, some policemen went there, but left the area in face of a protest, said farmer Zahid Munshi, 35, a witness.
