says i m going to deregulate some of these job problems, what happens businesses get optimistic again and they start investing and expanding and hiring people. that s exactly what s going on in the marketplace which is why the stock market is going up so much. i was in business, and i can promise you my friends are very optimistic under donald trump because they re not going to have things like the department of labor changing the definition of fidelity and i think you have a fair point of that because the stock market, which is really about people s perspective and their attitudes on that. also, gorsuch, people think he did a good job on his hearings. but people don t think it s a done deal yet. david, you said this was the worst 100 days of a president daens? so far. cnn sent me a note saying you
bankruptcy and giving them the coverage they never had. the insurance markets are a problem because republicans dismantled part of the safeguards that were in the original law. there was a mechanism to indemnify insurance companies if they got disproportionate amount of sick people and that s kaued many insurance companies to vacate the market. gerngs because the republicans sabotaged it by taking the mechanism away. so, we do need to work on the insurance markets. they are causing a great deal of b problems, there s not enough u options available. we have non-profit, a very popular non-profit co-op in kentucky that was just months away from becoming self-sustaining and again, the republicans took away the sub i subsidies helping those co-ops move toward sustainability. so, that is a problem and the individual market we have to
she called it a mistake to say we re at war with a religion instead of saying we re at war with violent jihadists. joining me now, nbc s kelly o donnell who was in baltimore today, where bernie sanders was speaking and weighing in. kelly, nice to see you. always good to be with you, erica. for bernie sanders today, this is not something he was anxious to talk about. he was meeting with faith and civic leaders in baltimore at a time when there has been so much tension and division in that community and the trial related to the death of freddie gray is also going on. so bernie sanders talked about sort of the connection, in a way, of how divisions within the country can be so harmful. and he sort of took on donald trump saying that it is trump who believes kind of highlighting those divisions, and enlarging them is a way to win elections. but in his news conference, he really wanted to focus on more of the agenda that he had, talking about income inequality, job problems in that area,
that s right. elizabeth warren, on paper, seems like an unlikely candidate to be stumping for senate candidates in kentucky and in west virginia. a big reason for that is that warren is in favor of restrictions on coal production. for allison, natalie tenant in west virginia they have to draw clear lines. saying they disagree with her on that. i like her on other issues. senator warren is from the northeast. she s progressive. she s more to the left than the red state democrats want to be. what warren brings with her is a legacy of fighting big banks and talking about how the system is rigged. what democrats are hoping is that that s a message that resonates across the party to democrats or independents or some republicans in the red states who feel like they re living under a rigged system. between the job problems in their states or other issues they re facing with health care or something else. they want to hear the message of there s a rig the system and there s something out the
i m glad you put it this way. there by the grace of god. these kind of things could befall many of us. many think poverty comes strictly from people who make mistakes and deserve what they re getting. that s not true when you talk about structural inequality and job problems in this country. the person you picked devil s advocate you a bit. the person you picked has a dependency problem that dogged him throughout his wife. part of your day was following him to a methadone clinic and aa because he s working hard to stay sober and clean but that s a day-to-day fight. what would you say to those who would say to you why should we use government funds, taxpayer funds, to help somebody who is a drug addict? ultimately anybody that struggled with drug addiction knows that it s hard to resist those temptations when you re living out on the streets. frankly, a house, a home, is the best way to kick somebody s habit and ultimately our system,
