adepress e ideas out of either camp, some new job plans or new ideas to help the economy? is that surprising to you that there seems to not be that pitch at this moment? well, as you know, jenna, in washington there s sort of, one of the biggest, truest truisms is nothing dramatic ever really happens in an election year because nobody wants to do anything that s risky. jenna: what are we going to do, charlie? we have a lot to talk about in the next couple months, huh? i know, i know. politicians get very risk-averse in an election year, so i think what we re going to wind up having is this continued argument by president obama that, you know, that it would have been so much worse if he hadn t taken the steps that he s taken: and the argument by mitt romney that says, you know, he should have done so many other things and so much more, that the reason this recovery is so anemic is because obama hasn t done the right things. and neither argument, in my
barack obama doesn t get re-elected. the party has more invested in economic failure than any out-party than any party i can remember in my lifetime. what s your response to that, e.j.? first of all, i m a big fan of michael wee s, i think and iu wanted to move this economy quickly, they could have picked some stuff out of the president s job plans, which is a pretty mainstream, middle of the road set of proposals, and you look at how hard the president had to fight just to get the payroll tax holiday extended. i mean, tax cuts are supposed to be what republicans are for. and they resisted that for a long time. i think the key number in mike s piece is that public sector job loss number. you know, if president obama is a socialist, it s a pretty weird kind of socialism. because public sector employment has gone down, private sector employment has gone up. if we hadn t lost all of those private sector jobs, we wouldn t be in so much trouble. the stimulus, the much-derided
