this is going to be an election that is very important for women. and we are going to make sure that their economic prosperity is more certain. joining me tonight is terry o neill, president of the national organization for women. terry, great to have you with us. you want to respond to what you just heard? look, if the big issue is job creation, i agree that it is, then why is ann romney s husband supporting job destroying policies like the romney/ryan budget? let s be clear. stripping medicaid, converting it into a block grant program and then reducing the federal funding by as much as a third, that s going to shut down nursing homes across the country. it s going to kill women s jobs across the job. ann romney is arguing that marriage and contraception don t have anything to do with women s financial security. what is she talking about? well, frankly, she s dead wrong.
from republicans no shortage of criticism for the president and his admid%gñhqiq%=99ñ senator demint is calling for the resignation of treasury secretary geithner. speaker boehner put out a statement saying: this decision is the latest consequence of the out of control spending that has taken place in washington for decades the spending binge has resulted in job destroying, economic uncertainty and sends destructive ripple affects. congressional committee. nancy pelosi said the american people are watching to see if the bipartisan joint committee will develop a plan to reduce the deficit in a balanced way while promoting economic democrats are calling for a comprehensive solution. when they say that they mean
health care law was passed last year with the help of then speaker of the house nancy pelosi who is just the minority leader now but she s still very excited about this first birthday. she put out a statement that says we enacted legislation that extends health care coverage to 32 million more americans and lowers health care costs while creating jobs, strengthening the middle class and helping the budget. a left leaning think tank says pelosi is wrong, at least in her argument that the health care creates jobs. the urban institute put out a report that they sum up all this by saying the basic conclusion is that the aca, affordable care act, will not have a noticeable effect on net levels of employment. so they re saying it s not job creating. it is not job destroying. when it comes to jobs, the health care law is not a factor so it seems that after a year, there s still a lot of confusion about what exactly the health care law does and what it doesn t do and when it comes to public
appearing to stop the power grab. i think they put in the word job destroying in front of anything they want to do. i don t think we re all quite as stupid as they want us to be. anyway, joining us now as these attacks come in, we see evidence of elevated levels of cancer causing chemicals caused chromium 6 now in 35 cities across the u.s. that same chemical was at the heart of the famous erin brockovich case nearly two decades ago and just last week ms. brockovich took her new clean water fight to washington to meet with lawmakers and epa and we re pleased to welcome her to the program. her new book hits stores this week. is it better than it was? no. as far as environmental issues are? no, i was pretty shocked when you just said almost two decades
to change things up a little bit and here is why. the phrase no longer achieves the goal. it became a distraction with the controversy of the events of what is going on. so what they did was they changed the job destroying, it gets the same point across but they are back to framing the issue which is what they need to do. shannon: what are some of the best and worst examples you have seen out there of using language to get your point across, especially in the political realm? rhetoric has always been used to help pass bills. look at newt gingrich. his contract with america. that worked because it was different. people thought okay, shared responsibility, shared goals accountability, it is a contract after all and that resonated with people. juxtapose that with president obama s single payor healthcare and people were like what is that i don t know what to think about that. it was marketed horribly and therefore it never gained any traction. rhetoric is very powerful. shannon: let
