Keith Crowell - Portage Public Schools
PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) A special meeting was held earlier this week as the School Board of Portage Public Schools approved appointing a new member. Keith Crowell will serve the remainder of the term left open with the passing of Trustee Joanne Willson in December of last year.
Willson had served on the Board since 2010. Crowell was one of 6 candidates who applied to fill the vacancy. Five candidates were interviewed at a special meeting prior to the vote. One candidate withdrew from consideration prior to this eveningâs interviews.
Crowell is a Portage resident who formerly served as CEO of the Home Builders Association of Western Michigan, President of the Michigan Home Builders Association Executive Council, and Chief Communications and Development Officer for Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall. He has four children who are graduates of Portage Public Schools. He is also a member of the Portage Education Association Board.

Little League® International remembers Michigan District 15 Administrator Joanne Willson. She was 74.
Mrs. Willson, a native of Toledo, Ohio, and longtime resident of Portage, Michigan, was elected as Michigan District 15 Administrator in 2014. She began her volunteer service to Little League in West Portage Little League. For more than 30 years, she dedicated time as a local league official, umpire, and member of the Michigan District 15 staff, before her election as D.A.
A graduate of St. Augustine Catholic High School and Western Michigan University, Mrs. Willson worked professionally as a restaurateur, banker, realtor, purchasing agent, healthcare administrator, and substitute teacher. Quite active in the Portage community, she was a school board member at the local and state levels and served on several committees with the Michigan Association of School Boards.

PORTAGE, MI Portage school leaders increased the school superintendent’s compensation this week.
Portage Public Schools Board of Education voted Monday, Dec. 14, to extend Superintendent Mark Bielang’s contract and increase his tax-sheltered annuity. This came after a “highly effective” rating from the board at a meeting in June.
