For a few families in North Jersey, celebrating the New Year involved a different kind of countdown. In what seems to be at least a two-way tie for the first North Jersey baby in 2021, two were born right at midnight, one in Bergen County and another in Essex County.
Jessica and Steve Palaia of Pompton Lakes welcomed their first child, a son named Damon, at midnight at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.
Jessica s due date was Jan. 6 but baby Damon, like so many others, couldn t wait any longer to get to 2021. So after more than 24 hours of labor, he arrived just in time to celebrate the new year.
