A Newport-Mesa Unified surplus land committee wants to consider leasing an 11.36-acre lot near Newport Beach's Randall Preserve. Those from the conservancy that preserved the area have a different idea.
The 387-acre parcel now known as the Randall Preserve is thought to be the biggest, privately owned swath of undeveloped coastal land south of Ventura.
The deal to purchase the 384-acre property was struck last May. Conservationists rallied to raise the funds needed to purchase the land and got the last bit they needed Thursday.
