The City of Stratford is asking the province to officially revoke a ministerial zoning order that paved the way for a Chinese company’s controversial proposal for a $400-million glass factory at the city’s south end.
After Xinyi Glass announced last month it was indefinitely suspending its proposal, citing a lack of progress by the city and significant public opposition, Coun. Cody Sebben introduced a motion asking Ontario’s minister of municipal affairs to revoke or repeal the MZO, which contentiously bypassed the normal public planning process to rezone recently annexed Perth South farmland to allow for the production of glass.
