Southend Tier 3: It ll be devastation | Clacton and Frinton Gazette

BUSINESS owners have warned people will lose their firms and homes as the newly announced Tier 3 rules decimate the hospitality industry. Under Tier 3 restrictions, hospitality venues, such as bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants must close but can open to offer takeaways. Accommodation such as hotels, B&Bs and guest houses have to shut. And many venues now fear a tough Christmas with no trade across vast parts of Essex. Some are hitting out at the Government for a lock of knowledge of the sector while others say it could see some pubs shut down forever. Garry Lowen of Glen Eagles Hotel, in Southend, said: “It will be another decimation of the tourism industry. It will probably tip some over the edge. We keep going three steps forward and 18 steps backwards. It will be fairly decimating and a massive backward step.”
