100 Years Ago: 1921
The Salvation Army would appreciate it very much if the “Mrs. Gibson” who purchased a chest of drawers of Adjutant Fowler Wednesday will return the velvet coat stored in one of the drawers. Adj. Fowler did not look in the drawers when he sold the piece of furniture, and one of the ladies of the corps thereby kept a valuable velvet coat which she had placed therein to keep it from rats and moths.
50 Years Ago: 1971
Joan Strout of Auburn, Miss Maine in the recent Junior Miss competition at Mobile, Ala., made an appearance Sunday afternoon at the outdoor show sponsored by the Martel Parent-Teacher Association. The show was staged, despite the inclement weather, on the school grounds with the displays of camping equipment and boats set up on the playing field. Miss Strout, who was introduced by Robert Dionne, past president of the PTA, talked to the group on her experiences In the competition and especially about the national contest at Mobile. D
