Gaines Center for the Humanities Names 12 New Scholars for 2021

The Gaines Center for the Humanities announced their 2021 cohort of Gaines Fellows representing eight UK colleges.. LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 8, 2021) The Gaines Fellowship is presented in recognition of outstanding academic performance, demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, an interest in public issues and a desire to enhance understanding of the human condition through the humanities. Founded in 1984 by a generous gift from John and Joan Gaines, the Gaines Center for the Humanities functions as a laboratory for imaginative and innovative education on UK’s campus. The Gaines Center is designed to enrich the study of the humanities at the University of Kentucky.

Undergrads May Apply Now for 2021 Gaines Center's Breathitt Lectureship in the Humanities

The Breathitt Lectureship gives an undergraduate the opportunity to present on a humanities topic of great interest to them. The winner also is a recipient of a cash prize. LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 4, 2021)  University of Kentucky undergraduates may apply now for the Gaines Center for the Humanities prestigious 2021 Edward T. Breathitt Undergraduate Lectureship in the Humanities. While applications are welcome from students in any college or major, the lecture must have a strong humanities focus. Any UK faculty member may also nominate a qualified student. The Breathitt Lectureship was established to honor an eminent Kentuckian and outstanding alumnus, former Gov. Edward T. Breathitt, whose interest in higher education and humanities was exceptional. This lectureship is awarded to an undergraduate whose qualities of mind and spirit have been expressed eloquently on one or more of the basic concerns of the humanities.
