She was hoping to eventually have obstetric services available at the hub and mental health providers on site, as well as the current offering of midwife services, ante- and post-natal classes, car-seat hire and assistance with free practical items. “There are rooms here for any health practitioner.” Getting the hub from conception to reality had been a very personal journey, said Toma. “We lived in Hawkes Bay, and my husband Craig Toma passed away in 2009, so I came here to give something back to where his whangai parents were from.”
