While most of us are trying to snatch some final minutes of sleep, ambitious larks are catching up each weekday morning at a local cafe to propel their side hustles and personal projects.
Started in 2019 in a Cronulla cafe, the 5.30 Club now operates out of 15 cafes around Australia. Itâs a place where ambitious people gather at the crack of dawn to get their day off to a productive start.

Take Harvey Lennon, 26, a Sydney plumber who hadnât read a book since school.
âWe would encourage people to come along for a power hour, to find a moment in the morning to do something that matters to you. Youâre done by 6.30 and can get on with your day.â
Word spread through suburbs and cities and now there are clubs in Canberra, Wollongong, Sydney, Queensland and Melbourne.
âItâs really up to the individual what they want to do, but itâs an amazing environment to make friends and connect with each other,â Schibli says.
A productivity game-changer?
While most of us can recognise the benefit of dedicating an hour a day to doing something weâre passionate about, Schibli says that what sets the club apart is the accountability of doing it with other people, which helps you get out of bed when itâs still dark.
