The federal government is investing in a yet-to-be-built Indigenous-led health centre, which will eventually operate in the McQueston neighbourhood. The centre will be part of the larger Biindigen Well-Being Centre, a complex which will also include family, social and housing services.
Indigenous leaders in Hamilton invited councillors late last year for a welcome ceremony after their inauguration, setting the stage for a new and improved relationship. Nearly one year later, "things are looking better," says Audrey Davis of the Hamilton Regional Indian Centre.
The former St. Helen Catholic Elementary School building in McQuesten West will likely be bulldozed this fall to make way for a unique Indigenous centre with housing, health care and social services.

Management at the YMCA of Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford are among the top wage earners in Brantford and surrounding area, in the Other Public Sector category of Ontario’s 2020 Sunshine List.

“The YMCA delivers employment and immigrant service programs across the region, and those can be federally or provincially funded programs,” said Kyla Kumar, vice-president of marketing and communications. “We seek support from the community at large and other organizations that might be able to support the Y.”
