A coordinator and facilitator of terror activities of various groups was arrested from the Jammu airport on Wednesday soon after his arrival from abroad, the police said here.
The man was identified by the police as Sher Ali.
“Sher Ali is the main coordinator and facilitator of terrorist activities of various groups. He is involved in facilitating infiltration of terrorists, smuggling of arms and ammunition and narcotics from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to Indian territory from the Balakote area of Poonch district,” the police said in a statement here.
Police sources said Ali was arrested based on specific information immediately after his arrival at the Jammu airport.

In a statement issued here, a police spokesperson said that Ali is the main coordinator and facilitator of militant activities of various groups. Ali, he said, is involved in facilitating infiltration of militants, smuggling of arms and ammunition and narcotics from Pakistan-controlled Kashmir (PcK) to Indian Territory from Balakote area of Poonch district.
Police sources said Ali was arrested based on specific information immediately after his arrival at the Jammu airport. He has been arrested in connection with a case lodged at police station Mendhar last year. He is also involved in many other cases, the police spokesperson said.
JAMMU: A joint team of the Army and J&K Police busted a terrorist hideout in the dense Gadyog forest in Rajouri district’s Khawas region late Sunday and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle, three AK-47 magazines, 94 AK-47 rounds, five UBGL grenades, two Chinese pistols, two Chinese pistol magazines, eight pistol rounds, one Kenwood radio set and three radio set antennae, confirmed Rajouri SSP Chandan Kohli.
The timely recovery has thwarted a possible terror bid besides attempts to revive terrorism in Rajouri and Reasi districts, SSP Kohli said.
On January 23, a joint team of the Army, BSF and J&K Police had busted a terror hideout in Hari Buddha area in Poonch district. On January 3, security forces had recovered arms and ammunition from another hideout in Dabbi village in Mendhar’s Balakote on disclosures of three terror associates of J&K Ghaznavi Force who were arrested on December 27 last year.

SRINAGAR: A soldier was killed and three were injured in a blast on Wednesday morning in Subhanpora area of Kulgam in southern Kashmir.
JAMMU: A 14-year-old boy was injured when Pakistan violated the ceasefire twice along the Line of Control (LoC) in Shahpur sector in J&K’s Poonch district on Monday, police said.
The first breach of truce was made around 11.30am with Pakistan resorting to unprovoked firing and heavy mortar shelling along the LoC, targeting forward Indian posts and civilian areas in Shahpur. The Army retaliated effectively and the initial exchange of fire continued till 12.50pm.
Around 4pm, Pakistan again violated the ceasefire and took to indiscriminate firing and intense shelling along the LoC. “Jahangir Ahmed, a resident of Shahpur’s Mendhar area, was hit by splinters when a mortar shell exploded near his house. He was hospitalised,” Poonch SSP Ramesh Angral said.
