Nayara Energy leads the private players, accounting for more than half of their combined sales. Nayara also operates the largest network of petrol pumps among private retailers. It has 6,590 pumps while Jio-BP, the joint venture of Reliance Industries and BP, operates 1,700 pumps, according to the oil ministry data. Shell has just 340 fuel stations and less than 1% share in domestic sales of petrol and diesel.
Reliance BP Mobility Limited (RBML), the joint venture between Reliance Industries and BP, plans to expand the retailing of compressed bio-gas (CBG) and Bio-CNG (B-CNG) to 200 outlets. Currently retailing in western India, the company aims to have 1950 fuel retail outlets, including 250 additions by the end of 2024.
EV Charging Infrastructure India: One of the major bottlenecks in the adoption of EVs has been the availability of charging infrastructure. According to a 2022 survey by EY across 18 countries on issues inhibiting the purchase of an EV, 4 of the top 5 issues were related to charging infrastructure. This highlights its importance in accelerating wide scale EV adoption. This is especially true in the 4W and heavier vehicle segments, which are highly dependent on public charging infrastructure.
