Wednesday, March 17, 2021 10:40 am Stocks fall on Wall Street ahead of Fed view on US economy YURI KAGEYAMA | Associated Press   TOKYO – Shares are opening mostly lower on Wall Street as investors cautiously await the U.S. central bank’s latest assessment on the economy. The S&P 500 lost 0.5% in the first minutes of trading Wednesday while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.2% thanks to gains by banks and oil companies. Economists expect Fed Chair Jerome Powell to try to convince jittery financial markets the central bank can continue providing support without igniting inflation. Shares are also slipping in France and Britain, while benchmarks in Japan, China, South Korea and Australia finished lower.
