Tipp Pharmacies to Aid in Vaccine Rollout

Tipp FM Following a long campaign to include pharmacists in the administration of Covid-19 injections, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly confirmed this week that they would now have a role. While there will be limitations as to what age group they will vaccinate and what vaccine they will administer, the move is being broadly welcomed. Speaking to Tipp Today, Jimmy O’Sullivan from O’Sullivans pharmacy said they are delighted to be involved in the roll out. He said that pharmacies will essentially be used to “mop up” whatever is left from the Over 50’s group. TAGS

Jimmy O’Sullivan, based in Fethard, is hopeful that they’ll receive Astra Zeneca stock a little earlier than expected, as that vaccine will not be used on over 70s. Instead, GPs will be provided with Pfizer and Moderna vaccine to vaccinate those older age groups due to greater certainty over its medical data. Jimmy O’Sullivan says that pharmacists are in an ideal position to vaccinate many types of healthcare staff as soon as possible:

A visit to Beverly Hills Wonderland, the Disneyland of Ireland, a theme park created entirely from cement and the imagination of one man. The theme park close to Mitchelstown in County Cork is the stone creation of Jimmy O Sullivan. For 35 years Jimmy worked on ships travelling around the world. On retiring in 1969, he returned to Ireland when he decided to build a version of all the sights he had seen on his travels. The result is mainly a playground for children but is also a tourist attraction to rival its American counterpart. The only Beverly Hills and Disneyland that really counts are here in Ireland.

Local Pharmacist urges caution before visiting shops, surgeries or hospitals

The same applies if you are awaiting a coronavirus test or result, or are a close contact of a confirmed case. The message from the HSE comes as a number of pharmacist’s in the Premier County have reported instances of people turning up with Covid like symptoms. Jimmy O’Sullivan from O’Sullivan’s pharmacy in Fethard says people should err on the side of caution. “It’s very difficult for people to distinguish whether they have Covid or just a regular winter flu or heavy cold.”
