Poughkeepsie, N.Y.: Re “Let jihadi killer live: lawyer” (Feb. 14): Much has been made about “his ISIS-inspired worldview,” which led bike path killer Sayfullo Saipov to hit New York with its worst day of terror since 9/11. Yet it needs to be emphasized that neither ISIS nor Al Qaeda was the originator of that ideology of death.
Manhattan: I knew Irene Cara back in the 1970s! I tracked her down after her agent, Selma Rubin, told me she was giving a talk to a group of students at the New York Public Library on W. 52nd St. She was quiet and gracious and said yes when I asked her to perform a benefit concert for the famous Riverside Theatre Workshop, which started at The Riverside Church.
Saint Charles, Ill.: The inaccurate portrait of the Republican Party as being complicit with the actions of the Donald Trump administration is a false narrative. The party may still have a holdout population of Trump supporters but, as a whole, it wants to be rid of him.
East Northport, L.I.: Your editorial (“Office no more,” April 4) is right hardly anyone wants to return to full-time commuting, though many are open to hybrid work. So who should do what? Here are a few ideas: Stop the idiotic Andrew Cuomo-Gov. Hochul real estate grab around Penn Station.
Manhattan: Chuck Weinstock is right on target in making light of Gov. Hochul’s non-plan for redoing Penn Station (“The blind men & the white elephant,” op-ed, Feb. 27). Missing is a bigger picture of how the region’s three commuter rail lines could work together to shrink the traffic overload on the region’s congested and polluted highways.
