KITTERY, Maine - Local medical marijuana providers are speaking loud and clear - a potential Kittery retail marijuana ordinance could burn their business prospects should it be adopted.
“The existing medical marijuana home businesses are locally-owned, locally-funded and locally staffed,” said Clay Wyman, a self-described caregiver at Southern Maine Apothecary at 114 State Road. “In contrast, the recreational marijuana market is dominated by large national and multinational companies that distribute their profits to Wall Street and/or out-of-state investors.”
The second installment of a cannabis-centric public hearing before Kittery’s Planning Board took place Thursday night, this time bringing out a heavier swing by the ordinance’s opponents than its proponents and retail hopefuls.
