colleagues alicica menendez, jonathan capehart, ayman mohyeldin, symone sanders-townsend, and with us from miami, katie phang. the twice impeached, and now twice indicted donald trump has become the first ex president to face criminal charges from the federal government. over the next two hours, my colleagues and i, along with some special guests, are going to break down the justice department s case against the former commander-in-chief. a case that we saw for the first time just yesterday. when the bombshell, 37 count indictment was unsealed. the indictment, which also names the trump aide and valet, walt nauta, as his coconspirator. outlined criminal charges related to more than 100 classified documents that federal agents recovered from trump s mar-a-lago resort last august. trump faces 31 counts of violating the espionage act, through willful retention of classified records. he faces another six counts stemming from his alleged efforts to impede the investigation. nauta

explaining no one is above the law, even a former president. our nation s commitment to the rule of law sets an example for the world. we have one set of laws in this country and they apply to everyone. and, jake, the special counsel also making the point today that violations of u.s. laws on classified documents put the country at risk. that s right, anderson. i want to bring in cnn s paula reid. walk us through the most damning allegations in the indictment in your view. this indictment tells a story of what investigators have learned over the past year and a half. they lay out how the former president allegedly willfully retained over 300 classified documents allegedly storing them around his mar-a-lago resort everywhere from a bathroom to a bedroom to a ballroom for over two months, that ballroom was activity hosting events touring this time. they also reveal how sensitive secrets meant over for a handful of our closest allies were splayed out in a storage room. t

here is what we know at this moment. the former president has been federally indicted on seven charges, it s all in connection with trump s handling of classified documents discovered at his mar-a-lago resort in florida last year. sources tell nbc news that those charges include false statements, conspiracy to obstruct and even one charge relating to the espionage act. we also know that trump has been summoned to appear in a miami court this tuesday at 3:00 p.m. along with the special counsel s team. secret service agents are meeting today with trump s team to begin logistics planning. we don t know the specifics of those charges as those are still under seal, but speaking on the today show this morning one of trump s lawyers made clear how the former president plans to respond. he was upset for the country, but in terms of him, he is a fighter and he is going to come out swinging and he will be fine. he will appear in court on tuesday, no doubt. he is not afraid of thi
