Carlsbad schools said students will be back in class on March 29
Carlsbad schools moved to virtual learning environments on March 13, 2020.
Superintendent of Carlsbad Schools Dr. Gerry Washburn said Carlsbad students would return to five-day a week in-person learning on March 29, 2021.
The announcement followed a decision by the New Mexico Public Education Department and Department of Health on Monday that all public schools could fully reopen by April 5.
“We are phasing out what we’ve been calling ‘hybrid’ learning, although there will continue to be a fully remote option for those families who choose it,” said Public Education Secretary Ryan Stewart in a news release.
HOUSE REPUBLICANS NEWS
The State of New Mexico today announced a plan to facilitate student reentry in public schools, just past the halfway point of the spring semester and a year into a statewide education shutdown order by the Governor.
“I wish that we could say this was a collaborative effort on behalf of our children and teachers, and I am happy that the massive public outrage has allowed for reopening of our schools,” said House Republican Leader Jim Townsend (Artesia). “Early on we announced legislation that would have tremendously helped allow schools to reopen, and we have continued to hear a steady stream of calls from New Mexicans of every walk of life calling to say they want to reopen New Mexico. Every New Mexican that has called the Governor or the legislature asking for schools to reopen should be proud that their efforts pushed Governor Lujan Grisham to do the right thing by our education system.”
