The camp of former Department of Transportation secretary Arturo Tugade dismissed claims that the Communications, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management System of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippineswas faulty, stating that it was the failure of backup power supply that caused the massive air travel disruption on New Year’s Day.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), in its incident report, said six right landing gears of the plane went off the pavement at the end portion of the taxiway onto the grassy portion, causing its wheels to get stuck in the process.
According to Nimfa Ravelo’s report on dzBB’s Super Radyo, the Boeing 777-368 aircraft with flight number SV862 landed in Manila at around 1:47 p.m. and was en route to NAIA Terminal 1 when the incident occurred.
