The American Petroleum Institute held its annual “State of American Energy” (SOAE) on Thursday, where the organization’s President and CEO Mike Sommers made it clear that the U.S. oil and natural gas sector is crucial to powering the economy, supporting local communities, boosting national security, addressing environmental challenges, and supporting the fight against COVID-19.
As Sommers said:
“We’ve become conditioned to pit using energy against making environmental progress, yet history has shown that this is a false choice. Both developing energy and reducing emissions are essential to advance our society and protect the environment. The American Petroleum Institute (API) today hosted its annual State of American Energy address, where it outlined actions the natural gas and oil industry is taking to support the nation’s economic recovery and a vision for an affordable, reliable and cleaner energy future. API President and CEO Mike Sommers headlined the event that drew more than 2,000 virtual attendees and featured young professionals and local energy leaders, including a New Mexico teacher and Pennsylvania-based union trade leader.
