SWEET HOME, Ore. A drunk driver who hit three Sweet Home siblings in 2020, killing two, was sentenced on Wednesday.
Austyn Hillsman, 22, will serve nearly 15 years in prison and six years of post-prison supervision. The prosecutor had recommended nearly 17 years.

Hillsman was put on trial last month and on June 11, he was found guilty of two counts of second-degree manslaughter, third-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, and reckless driving.

SWEET HOME, Ore. – On a quiet countryside just outside Sweet Home, Jim Simonis has a lot of time to think and wonder, but his mind never drifts or strays too far, especially on May 23.
One year ago this Sunday, Simonis’ three inseparable children had taken their dog to their mom, who is a vet, but they never made it home. Police said their car was hit by a drunk driver on Highway 228 near Brownsville.

ALBANY, Ore. The man accused of crashing his car into another vehicle, killing two siblings and injuring another, was indicted Friday.
Austyn Hillsman, 21, was charged with five different counts, including two counts of first-degree manslaughter, one count of second-degree assault, driving under the influence of an intoxicant, and reckless driving.

His indictment comes six months after he allegedly crashed his pickup truck into a Honda carrying 19-year-old Caleb, 16-year-old Shelby, and 15-year-old Kylie Simonis back in May of this year.
