this since 1993. poppy, jim? gosh. dan simon, i m glad you re there. thank you very much. we re going to keep watching this. it s not just st. louis. this is happening all over the midwest. it keeps getting worse with the rain that keeps coming. we ll stay on it. this is in phoenix, arizona. and in that carrier is 75-year-old woman who is injured while hiking. she needed to be air lifted off the mountain. all of a sudden things went very wrong. it had to be miserable in there. you see the basket spinning completely out of control. the woman did feel nauseous and dizzy after being whipped around. i mean of course she would. thankfully, she is expected now to be okay. pretty remarkable. i wonder how they were able to stop her. you can t land it, right? it would be hitting things on the ground. i guess i thought those things were made to not do that.
who knows what is going to happen. we know that the national guard is out in force, trying to assist folks as best they can. poppy, jim? farmers can t plant their crops. making matters worse, we understand a water pumping station failed, leading to further issues. tell us what you know. reporter: right. this was quite a situation. you had a pumping station that sort of feeds the downtown area. and as a result, you had many businesses and hotels that did not have hot water. it happened really at a bad time, as the st. louis blues, of course, are in the stanley cup finals. couple of days ago you had all these guests coming to the city to watch that game, had no hot water in the hotel rooms, not to mention the hotels that rely on hot water, restaurants that rely on hot water just to service their needs. apparently they re working overtime to try to get that situation under control. that gives you another example of what they re dealing with, with this historic situation. they haven t
to be coming? much more on that, lauren. where do negotiations stand between the trump administration and mexico over the president s demands here? there are some optimistic signs. from mexico, we ve been hearing based on what they ve seen from the white house, they feel like a deal can be worked out. that sounds somewhat comforting to all of those business people and farmers and republicans, members of the president s own party, who have been so concerned out there. and today the white house, one of the white house aides is spelling out exactly what they think mexico could do better. more resources at their border, take care of asylum seekers, make sure people aren t profiting on human trafficking. so, they re spelling out some points where mexico could do better. it seems that the point that mexico is in at least some agreement on that. so, a couple of hours from now, we could have a clearer picture. kate? depending what comes out of the meeting, there might be progress to avoid
three americans found dead within five days at the same resort in the dominican republic. dominican authorities announce that they are investigating the death of 41-year-old miranda warner. pennsylvania woman died in her hotel room in playa nueva romana. an american couple was found dead at the same hotel. all three checked into the hotel on the same day. martin savidge has been following the story. martin, do we have any details about how this happened? we have a lot of details. what we don t have are specific answers here, jim. the question that authorities are grappling with, are they dealing with what could be some sort of tragic coincidence or is it something more sinister than that? it goes back to the 25th of may
it s already so bad and it s going to get worse. how is the city preparing? hi, poppy, jim. first of all, this is kind of a crazy sight we re seeing in downtown st. louis. this gives you the idea of the conditions here. look at this roadway that is totally submerged. you can see the lamp post in the background. that gives you a sense in terms of how high the water has risen. this is all mississippi river that has flooded this roadway. we re talking about 400 roads that have been closed as a result of the flooding throughout the state of missouri and in addition to that, you ve got a couple of dozen levies that have been breached. some of the folks who have been impacted the most by all of this, of course, are the farmers, who just cannot get out in their fields about plant their crops because the fields are inundated by water. in terms of what people are doing today up and down the river, you see people filling up sand bags, doing the best they can to try to protect their homes and t
