Occupants, family pets escape to safety
The Wellsville Daily Reporter
ANDOVER Firefighters from multiple Allegany County fire departments responded to a large structure fire at 2225 state Route 417 in the Town of Andover Wednesday night.
The multi-story home was fully engulfed in flames as firefighters from Andover, Wellsville and Alfred Station arrived on scene around 5:15 p.m. With the fire already raging out of control, the volunteer firefighters set to work containing the blaze and eventually extinguishing it after hours of steady effort.
The structure, however, was deemed a total loss, Andover Fire Chief Dennis Givens said. It was buried in the basement, Givens said. We had an excavator come in from Otis (Eastern). We had to use that to get some of the back portion of the house. That helped us get to it to put it out.
