Nightly news. Reporting tonight, lester holt. Good evening. The halls of power in washington, d. C. Were without power for a time today, as the lights blinked out from the white house to the capitol. And well beyond. Given the times we live in a lot of people briefly wondering if there was some kind of attack. For some it lasted moments, others were without power for quite some time. There were parts of the government left to carry on in the dark while elsewhere, forcing evacuations at some of the citys famous museums. An nfl player already in the news for Domestic Violence has been fired by his team, the baltimore ravens, and suspended from playing by the nfl. We had already seen running back ray rice on video taken outside an elevator dragging the unconscious body of the woman who is now his wife. Justice mccaffrey handed over his letter of resignation to governor corbett a week after being suspended by his colleagues on the state Supreme Court. For seven years, Justice Mccaffrey served on the pennsylvania Supreme Court. The c64yearolds life was fu of Public Service. First as a Philadelphia Police officer, then as the presiding judge, sorting out rambunctious eagles fans in what was known as eagles court, a courtroom in the veteran s stadium basement. Hes retiring monday. Emails were sent and received between 2008 and 2012. Mccaffreys retirement ends an investigation into his conduct. It also ends a 20year judicial career.
