MILFORD - It was a split decision, but the Planning and Zoning Board approved a mixed-use commercial building at 67 Prospect St.
The board approved a plan that calls for a three-story, 36-unit building to be built behind the historic David Baldwin House. The house will have its exterior restored and its interior renovated to house office space and a fitness center for renters.
With public comment having been closed at the board’s March meeting, discussion was limited at the April 6 meeting to board members.

MILFORD All 12 residents who spoke at the recent Planning and Zoning Board meeting expressed opposition to a plan to renovate the historic Baldwin House and construct a 36-unit apartment building at the rear of the Prospect Street site.
The board continued the public hearing to its March 2 meeting to give it time get a second review of the drainage plan and also to request a legal opinion regarding its powers.
About 30 residents attended the public hearing. The dozen that spoke expressed concerns about the project’s density in a historic area, the effect of additional traffic, and the impact storm water runoff would make on neighboring properties, particularly the Milford Cemetery. The 1-acre property is at 67 Prospect St.

The south entrance to the Southwick complex on Wheelers Farm Road.Google Street View
MILFORD The Planning and Zoning Board has approved a change to the city’s Planned Elderly Community zoning regulations that would allow completion of the Southwick at Milford, a 55 and older condominium complex on Wheelers Farm Road.
According to attorney Kevin Curseaden, who submitted the proposal to the board last month meeting, the Southwick was constructed in 2000. But the developer did not finish the project, he said.
Curseaden requested a change to Section 3.1.6.3, reducing the minimum lot size from 10 to five acres for a “previously approved phased development Planned Elderly Community Use” in an RA zone, and allowing for a “separate fee simple ownership.”
