The 2021 Leadville Winter Mountain Bike Series hosted by the Cloud City Wheelers will take place this winter with self-timed rides on defined courses rather than a more traditional race.
Cyclists will have a number of days to ride each course in an unsupported fashion and log their time on the series registration website, according to a news release.
This year’s series which will include new categories for cross-country skiers and snowshoers starts with the Colorado Cup Race from Saturday to Jan. 31 at Colorado Mountain College in Leadville.
Subsequent series races include one at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center from Feb. 5-7 and Feb. 12-14, the Mineral Belt Mayhem starting at Dutch Henri Hill Trailhead from March 6-14, the Fatty Patty 50K starting at Colorado Mountain College and winding through the historic East Side Mining District from March 20-28 and the East Side Epic on a to-be-determined course from April 10-18.

Colorado River Water Conservation District officials have laid out a framework for how they will spend their new tax revenue with an emphasis on equity across water sectors and gaining the support of local government.
At a Dec. 3 board meeting, River District General Manager Andy Mueller presented a framework for the organization’s new Partnership Project Funding Program, which creates a system for how entities can apply for funding and how River District staff and board members will evaluate those applications.
In November, an overwhelming 72% of voters approved ballot measure 7A, which raises property taxes across the district and will add about $5 million annually to the River District’s coffers. Eighty-six percent, or $4.2 million, of that will go toward funding water projects.

Summit County and Colorado are experiencing below average snowfall early this season, but La Niña could help.
At a Colorado River District webinar Wednesday, Dec. 16, Open Snow founding meteorologist Joel Gratz said Colorado snowpack is about 25% below average. He said Colorado is about two weeks behind its average snowpack level for this time of year but that things could quickly turn around.
“If we get into a good pattern, and it snows every other day or so, we can quickly make up the deficit that we currently have,” Gratz said during the webinar.
