The Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) has approved a major revision to the way in which over $550 million annually in local and state taxpayer funding is distributed to
Oregon s public universities will see a change in how much funding the state will provide next fiscal year under a new revised distribution model.
The Higher Education Coordinating Commission, which is the state agency that works with and distributes funds for the public universities and colleges, announced its updated funding model Thursday, after more than a year of detailed review.
The commission hopes the changes will improve affordability for low-income students and better support each university s individual mission.
The new model corrects outdated funding practices and allocates more money to universities for certain student groups, such as community college transfers and low-income students.
