North Ayrshire EV: Charges planned for electric vehicle charging points

Three million charge points will be needed at commercial and industrial sites to support widespread use of electric vehicles (EVs) in Britain by 2040, according to a new report. PRESS Electric vehicle drivers are set to face charges for the electricity which has previously been provided for free since installation. North Ayrshire’s Cabinet agreed plans to introduce tariffs at charge points as part of plans to roll out the use of EVs further. Drivers will be charged 30p per kWh for Rapid charge points (over 43kW) and 19p per kWh for Destination charge points (all slower charge points e.g. 22kW, 7kW and 3kW).

Irvine Rivergate footbridge to Fullarton removed for works

A key Irvine footbridge will be removed this month until April for improvement works. New Street footbridge - which links pedestrians from Fullarton to the multi-storey car park at the Rivergate Shopping Centre – will undergo refurbishment works to increase safety and access as well as enhance the overall look of the prominent bridge. To avoid a lengthy road closure, the footbridge will be removed to allow the works to be undertaken off-site. To remove the bridge, New Street will be closed on Thursday, February 25 with a further one-day road closure expected in April to reinstate the bridge once works are completed.

Kilwinning Main Street to close for traffic from Monday

Kilwinning Main Street. DRIVERS in Kilwinning are being urged to be aware of new restrictions to the town’s Main Street. Kilwinning’s community councillors voted last year to demand action on cars illegally using the Main Street after further complaints. After writing to the town’s Locality Partnership, it was agreed there should be restrictions imposed on vehicles. Now a temporary traffic order is being introduced which will restrict access for vehicles between 10.30am and 4.30pm, Monday-Saturday starting Monday, January 11. Cllr Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Green New Deal and Sustainability, said: “We have introduced these measures in response to increasing community concerns for the safety of pedestrians on Kilwinning’s Main Street.
