what is his strategy? is it going to work? joining us to talk about that is our favorite harry reidologist, john ralston. here in the studio is jim manly, a 21-year veteran of the senate who spent much of the time working for senator reid and knows him very well. jim, i ll start with you you know him so well. we played all the republicans bashing him. he gets under their skin like few others do on capitol hill. is he enjoying this on some level? does he enjoy what he evokes from republicans? the fact of the matter is he once said, by that, he would rather dance than fight. to that, i say, however, while he preferred a dance, he s one hell of a fighter. if the republicans want to fight, you know, he s going to take it to him. i must admit watching that clip brought back a lot of great memories. part of me after watching some of those republicans say i wish i was back there going after him. not one word of what he said is correct. what is it, also, in terms of just legislative tactic
the dark. our congressional correspondent kate bolduan is on capitol hill looking into the story. kate, what s going only here? this was not supposed to be like this. reporter: hey there, wolf. i m standing out front as people are passing by. behind me is this nondescript room. this is where the super committee will meet again this evening behind closed doors which has some government watchers, since this committee has such a huge job before them, some government watchers are calling this approach troubling. good morning. reporter: the so-called super committee began its work with a promise of transparency. i believe the american people deserve to have full access to committee business the way they do with every committee here in congress. there will be ample opportunities for the public to have their opinions heard. reporter: but with just seven weeks before their thanksgiving deadline, the committee has met in public only three times. the 12 members meeting more
reid for his take. take a listen. like i said, i think all are serious, substantive picks. there s some that i have disagreements with. i don t know, for instance, how senator toomey can sit there after having voted against the debt limit increase a couple of weeks ago, but having said that, you know, all, i think, are designed to, a, reflect their different constituencies and, b, reflect their caucus as well. reporter: now, jim manly believes that everything needs to be on the table in these discussions, that means looking at revenue, also looking at the entitlements which are long-term drivers of our debt. we will see how those talks proceed, jon. jon: but there are a lot of skeptics out there not crazy about this supercommittee, right? reporter: that s right. you know, in washington a blue ribbon panel, special committee, they seem to happen all the time, and a lot of times the reports go up on a shelf, and nothing happens. one of the most vocal critics of this supercommittee
