Jim Langley, president of the Hoover Historical Society, led a guided tour through Oak Hill Cemetery in downtown Birmingham on Friday morning and many of those following him through the oak-shaded lanes were descendants of one of the famous families buried there.
“The people that founded Birmingham are pretty much all buried here,” said Langley, author of “Tales of Oak Hill,” about the 1871 cemetery located just west of the BJCC Legacy Arena. The cemetery was founded the same year as Birmingham, 150 years ago.

Washington D.C., Feb 22, 2021 / 02:23 pm (CNA).- As President Joe Biden re-established a key White House faith-based office last week, former political liaisons to religious groups commended the move but warned that the office might be misused.
On Feb. 14, President Biden announced he was reinstating the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. Established by President George W. Bush in 2001, the office was meant to strengthen relationships between the federal government and religious leaders in a number of policy areas.
In his announcement, Biden just the second Catholic president in U.S. history cited the role that civil society can play in responding to current challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and “systemic racism.”
