vote kicks off. so, the last vote that was taken, mccarthy ended with 214 votes. there were 212 votes for hakeem jeffries, the democrat, and then there were these six, the republican holdouts who refused to vote for kevin mccarthy. they all casts the name of jim jordan in the last round of voting. now, two things to keep in mind. there is the six holdouts. the other variable is that there were two republican members, wesley hunt and ken buck, who are missing today, who were both mccarthy supporters, who were coming back. it s the reason for holding this vote late this evening. it is to get them to come back, presumably, they are there, and ready to vote for mccarthy. if so, that would give him 216. now, if they are there, and of all the democrats are there, if everybody is present, as has generally been the case here, that means there s gonna be a total of 434 members in the chamber. if they all vote for somebody, that means the magic number is 218, right? because half of 434 s 217.
voting loyally. it is given s leadership style, a leadership style that s been lacking in the institution for too long. it is the same style kevin employed with each of us, as we developed our policy proposal, our commitment to america. a plan that works to secure our border, and stop the flow of fentanyl to our communities, to give chairman comer, and chairman jordan the tools they need to hold biden administration accountable for their failures. and to take china on, and then the presents with covid emergency powers that have been abused far too many times. to finally reopen the people s house, and empowers standing committees, and get people back to regular order here on the house floor. and countless other conservative solutions that are very powerful and good for constituents and bakersville, or lincolnton, north carolina. madam clerk, i am one of the few members left on the republican side.
