New plans for Quincy building call for waiving taxes for 40 years What we know

Quincy proposes $406 million budget for fiscal 2024

A fourth ladder company, new police and library personnel and $59 million in debt service are included in the budget proposal for next fiscal year.

Apartments, condos and even a Target: North Quincy comes of age

QUINCY  For almost 20 years, North Quincy s Tullio s restaurant on Hancock Street was a go-to date spot for couples looking for Italian cuisine and a laid-back atmosphere.  Nearby, the Ritz Motel drew a rowdy crowd for 68 years before it was ultimately shut down by the city in 2005. Farther down Hancock Street, the James J. Sullivan Insurance Agency was open for 57 years before closing, and on Newport Avenue, ZRC Products Co. operated for decades before relocating to Marshfield. Today, these longtime fixtures of North Quincy are gone and in their place stand small to mid-sized apartment buildings  both completed and under construction  with easy access to Boston, public transit and local schools. Longtime residents have enjoyed these benefits for decades, and developers are catching on that the overlooked section of the city may be where opportunity lies.
