AstraZeneca vaccine suspended in Ontario amid concerns | Bancroft this Week

May 19, 2021 Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Because of concerns over blood clots, and out of an abundance of caution, Ontario stopped offering AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine as a first dose option on May 11. Canada has seen 12 cases of blood clots with three patients dying, with eight cases in Ontario. Local pharmacies in Whitney and Bancroft have confirmed the pause on the AstraZeneca vaccine, and say they should have more supply of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines within the next couple of weeks to compensate. Health Canada and the National Advisory Committee on Immunization, along with their provincial counterparts are currently determining how best to use the AstraZeneca vaccine going forward.

COVID-19 vaccinations underway in South Algonquin | Bancroft this Week

March 31, 2021 Local Journalism Initiative Reporter In a press release issued on March 22, the Renfrew County and District public health gave an update on its vaccine rollout throughout the county, including South Algonquin Township. People aged 80 years and over are currently being vaccinated and those 75 years to 79 years of age are now eligible to register for the vaccine, and can do so at www.rcdhu.com. Jim Etmanski, the executive director of the South Algonquin Family Health Team, says that South Algonquin has been keeping in line with the Health Unit’s roll out of the vaccine for their various eligible populations.
