Reporter nearly 1000 people crowded into the auditorium at Stanley Middle School in lafayette this morning to discuss the Deadly Florida shooting and what can be done to keep our kids safe. It is awful to worry about somebody coming into a school and shooting at your kids. The fact that that happens is horrifying. Reporter it was organized by a congressman who says gun regulations would reduce violence, if only congress were willing to act. Universal background checks would get rid of the loophole. Number two, putting the assault weapons ban back in place nationally. Reporter the aftermath of shootings often unfold to a wellknown pattern. Initially there is support, but it usually ends with an action on the part of lawmakers. Attendees at tonights meeting say they hope this time will be different. I am very hopeful. Guys on the block and i always wanted to be one sell i went to enlist to try to become a marine and the marine recruiter was out to lunch and in the strip mall all of a sudden you got these Army Recruiters and Navy Recruiter coming out trying to be snipers and take you off and get you to come to them. I talked to each of them and the Navy Recruiter sold me on being at seal. Host at that moment you knew you wanted to be seal . Guest everything he told me, the recruiter built it up to it is more of a jason bourne type thing but he sold me that the navy seals did this stuff you never hear about all this great adventure and you are going to be the most highly trained person out there, you will have all these skills shooting handtohand, all right, that sounds great if they are the best and i want to be the best. The opportunity to talk a little bit about what we have been doing on the Energy Committee for the past year in an effort to really focus on where we have been with Energy Policy and really helping to move forward in a way that is not the same old same old, but really real imagining and refocusing where we should be has been an important opportunity for us to really put some considered thought into the proposal. What you have in front of you is better than airplane reading. There are some suggestions in this energy 2020 document that people will look at and they will argue and they will say that is one persons view. That is true, that is true. But while we are trying to do is not give you a legislative package starting with initiatives that we are going to kind of clicked off as we move forward.
