I started learning about her 16 years ago when i began working at the hoover president ial library. Quite a woman before her time. Lou henry was born in waterloo, iowa march 29, 1874. She was very close to her father, who was a bookkeeper at the First National bank. For most of her young life, she was hoping she could go into banking as well. They were extremely close until he passed away in 1928. She had a younger sister who was born on june 30, 1882. Her mother, florence, developed chronic bronchitis, which caused the family to move around, looking for an environment that was more conducive to her mothers health.
