FULTONDALE, Ala. (WBRC) - Gov. Kay Ivey, state and Jefferson County leaders visited Fultondale a day after an EF-3 tornado destroyed homes, buildings, a school and killed a young boy.
Governor Ivey started the news conference Wednesday by saying, âThe people of Alabama are praying for yâall this morning and we are here as a sign of our commitment to your recovery.â
Serious injuries reported as hotel and church sustain significant damage from a ‘large and extremely dangerous tornado’ that ripped through Birmingham area
A tornado described as “large and extremely dangerous” by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, Alabama, left people with serious injuries and caused significant damage throughout Jefferson County and surrounding areas Monday night, including ripping through a hotel and tearing off part of the roof of a church.
Injuries ranging from minor to serious have been reported with victims transported to area hospitals, Jim Coker Director of Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) told CNN. He did not say how many people were injured.
