more than a dozen fires were set throughout the city last night. anne mackovic shows us the damage and the plan to catch whoever is responsible. . reporter: fire bugs on the loose in mow vad dough. someone set between 6 and 20 fires last night in this area. i was laying in bed and i said it smells like a fire. then i heard dogs barking. reporter: it was one of the grass fires. firefighters put it out quickly and the damage was minimal. the heaviest of the fires burned this pg&e power pole and a fence on the side of another con he dough. condo. at the very moment, they all to run up the street to another fire. reporter: of special concern right now, the fact that it hasn t rained in so long. the ground is very dry and there s a lot of fuel ready to burn. it does increase our alertness to the situation, and we are working diligently to try to put some solutions to what happened. reporter: the neighborhood does have signs posted, saying the area is under surveillan
parking lot. tonight, we still don t know who was responsible for a six- year-old boy. he was found alone, outside a bank, near the san leandro border. don knapp is in oakland with what police are saying. don? and this mixed residential and business area on east 14th. right at the san leandro open border is not a bad neighborhood but it is certainly not the neighborhood you would expect to find a 6- year-old child wandering about at 3:30 in the morning. that s what passerby did find and fortunately for the child called police. a citizen who was in the area, noticed a little boy by himself. did a fantastic job. stopped. and stayed with the little boy. after calling the oakland police department. when officers arrived, they took the little boy into their care. the little boy currently is at a safe place. reporter: the boy is seen here in the back of a police car. as oakland police officers arranged for child protective services to get involved. cps now has the boy. and wh
