One team that is certainly doing themselves proud is the ‘Scrub-Up’ team in West Cumbria. Started by Sophia Atcha last year, in response to the urgent demand for scrubs for frontline workers, the group of volunteers have made thousands of sets of scrubs for workers including nurses, doctors, dentists and osteopaths. The team is based in Cockermouth, at the Friends Meeting House, but due to strict coronavirus guidelines there are only usually two people there at once, with many of the team working remotely from home to sew the sets of scrubs. Sophia recently asked for more people to get involved with ‘Scrub-Up’, and was overwhelmed at the response for help, after her Facebook post reached more than 25,000 people.
