Here s how some Calgary families spent Boxing Day outside stores, in fresh snow

CALGARY Plenty of Calgary families found some creative ways to make the most of the ice and snow, avoiding shopping centres. WinSport at Canada Olympic Park reopened the tube park on Boxing Day. “We really enjoy tobogganing, and so this is just a next step,” said Karen Mansell who came to the tube park with her son. “It actually feels safer sometimes, so it’s really enjoyable.” WinSport officials they were able to reopen the tube park after recent heavy snowfall. “Thanks to Mother Nature’s huge dump that we had earlier this week and the opportunity to make snow - it s perfect tubing conditions,” said Dale Oviatt, senior manager of communications at WinSport.

Jill Plett is a board member with Grunthal s Community Christmas. She says by the end of Tuesday, they should have delivered all 124 hampers. Plett admits that the total is less than they had been expecting this year. With the COVID-19 pandemic, Plett says her committee had been budgeting for 150 hampers. To our surprise, the numbers weren t coming in as quickly as we expected, she says. So we were able to downsize the number of hampers that we were preparing for.
