Interestingly, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in its order last year regarding damage to Chandapura Lake had rapped KSPCB for its inaction. Earlier, in an order dated October 10, 2022, the tribunal had directed the Karnataka government to pay a compensation of Rs 500 crore for not maintaining the lake.

Wildlife conservationists say ill-conceived road infrastructure projects and other development work in protected areas and forest reserves are eating into wildlife habitats, forcing wild animals to cross highways or land in human habitations.
The aerial photos will cover the boundaries of the lakes and help residents determine the current lake area. The images will then be overlaid with the official maps of the lake available with the Revenue Department to calculate the total encroachment so far. Apart from highlighting encroachments, the initiative is also expected to spot polluted water entering through any of the inlets.
The administrative officer of ESISMS returned around 20 applications submitted seeking information on dispensaries and hospitals maintained by the ESISMS stating that all those dispensaries and hospitals do not have information officers.
