PORTSMOUTH Jianna O’Brien’s desk is tucked in the corner of the Prudence Island School. Tidy and accented with splashes of pink, it grants the 18-year-old a bit of privacy from her younger peers.
O’Brien is one of seven students at the Prudence Island School, and the only 12th-grader. She shares her school day with a kindergartner, a second-grader, a fourth-grader, two fifth-graders and a ninth-grader.
At the June 12 commencement ceremony, O’Brien will be the only student feted. In fact, she s the first graduate of the Prudence Island School since the 2015-2016 academic year. Typically, high school-aged students who live on Prudence Island travel via ferry to the mainland to attend Portsmouth High School.
